An up-and-coming Western Conference team, the Jazz are led by Gordon Hayward, who was named to the NBA All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2017. He also was the first Jazz player to receive the nod since Deron Williams in 2011. A Butler University alumnus, Hayward was drafted by the Jazz with the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The small forward played a limited role in his rookie season, but has shown gradual improvement in each of his seven seasons in the league. In fact, Hayward's points per game average has risen in each successive season, topping out at 22.2, which is his average in 2016-2017. With more minutes, his rebounding and assists averages have also increased drastically since his rookie season.

Hayward was named NBA Player of the Week for the week ending January 16, 2017. and has maintained a top-10 spot among NBA.com's Kia Race to the MVP Ladder for much of the year.
